Youth Voices for Oman’s Environment
When people talk about environmental change, they often imagine scientists, ministers, or international conferences. But real change also starts in classrooms, school assemblies, and WhatsApp groups where students share ideas.
From “School Project” to Real Impact
Oman Impact began as a Grade 9 assignment, but the issues it covers are not limited to one subject or one term. When a student builds a website, designs a poster, or runs a small campaign, they are practising skills that can later be used in clubs, local communities, or even start-ups.
What Students Can Do Now
- Start an eco-club that organises clean-up events or awareness days.
- Work with teachers to reduce single-use plastic in the school canteen.
- Create social media content that highlights positive examples, not just problems.
- Invite local experts or NGOs to speak at school events.
Building a Culture of Responsibility
Adults sometimes say that young people are “the leaders of tomorrow”. That is true, but they are also influencers today. When students choose to respect school rules about rubbish, water use, or energy, they set the tone for everyone else.
Oman’s future depends on more than government plans and big projects. It also depends on the daily choices of students who decide that “environmental awareness” is not just a topic in a textbook, but a way of living.
